Iconography Cantillana Pastor: The canvas of the Hermitage

This is the best known and pictorial representation of the Divine Shepherdess reproduced Cantillana. This is the canvas chairs the altarpiece of the chapel in his honor was erected between 1956 and 1960.
Its implementation was entrusted the well-known painter from Seville Juan Antonio Rodríguez Hernández, who had run other years before another picture of the pastor of formal characteristics similar but smaller format, commissioned by the exemplary Pastoreño and then president of the Eucharist and the Fold Board pro-Ermita, Baltasar Fernández Morejon (RIP), who curiously promoted the realization of this that concerns us and he gave on behalf of his mother, Matilde Fernandez, the widow of Morejon. The dimensions of the canvas top of which terminates in a semicircular shape, are of 169 x 123 cms., So that the measures of the Virgin correspond exactly to the measures Image or original.
For its implementation, the painter he improvised a studio in the parish, at the foot of the alcove where they worship the Divine Shepherdess Cantillanera, to which he drew sketches and outlines of the composition and try to reproduce the figure in the most reliable features and colorful image in your dressing room environment. Thus achieved, the work was presented to the faithful and blessed in the Pilgrimage of 1959, a chapel and even works without a Baroque altarpiece than a year later would frame definitely. The figure of the Virgin appears in the center, surrounded by the characteristic features (sheep, almond ...) and the picturesque landscape which integrates brilliantly thanks to the colors of his clothes and the simplification of the ornamental details of size, such as dressing and fabrics stews. Hat shown bareheaded, appearing at his feet and waving the wand of silver gilt.
On your right is the lovely image of the Divine Pastorcito wearing sheepskin and leather chaps and carrying the staff with flowers in her right hand and ears of wheat on the left. In more remote and the other side of the Virgin is depicted the figure of San Miguel, the overseer of the flock, curiously playing the old image of the archangel who lost the Brotherhood in the civil war, so that the painter had to resort to photographs before 1936 to translate it into the box.
A beautiful pair of angels bearing the legend with flowers and words of Psalm 79: " We are the sheep of his flock " rounds out the top spot adapting to the environment.
The only time that this painting is out of the chapel was in April 2001 on the occasion of the exhibition Cantillana Pastora, 50 pilgrimages, held in the Casa de la Provincia de Sevilla L occasion of anniversary of the pilgrimage.
